Privacy information

The Federal Office for Central Services and Unresolved Property Issues is firmly committed to protecting your personal data. We want you to know which data we collect and when, and how we use that data. We have taken technical and organisational measures to ensure that the relevant data-privacy regulations are observed, both by ourselves and by external service providers.

As we further develop our website and implement new technologies in order to improve our services to our users, it may also be necessary to amend this privacy statement. We would therefore recommend that you re-read this privacy statement from time to time.

Privacy statement

Personal information

Personal information within the meaning of the Federal Data Protection Act (Bundesdatenschutzgesetz) refers to information relating to the personal or material circumstances of an identified or identifiable individual. This could include, for example, the person's name, address, date of birth, telephone number or e-mail address. In general, the website of the Federal Office for Central Services and Unresolved Property Issues (http://www.badv.bund.de) may be used without visitors having to provide personal data. We record only the name of your internet service provider and the pages that you visit on our website. The data that we obtain in this way are used exclusively for statistical purposes in order to improve our website and cannot be traced back to you.

Every visit to the BADV website is recorded in a log file. The following data are stored in this log file for a maximum of 14 days:

Name of the file accessed
Date and time of the access
Amount of data transferred
Whether the file was successfully accessed or not

The stored data are evaluated for the sole purpose of improving our website.
If you order informational material, newsletters or brochures from us, we will ask you for your name and other personal information. You are free to decide whether or not to enter these data. We store your data on specially protected servers in Germany. These servers can be accessed only by specially authorised persons who are responsible for the servers in technical, commercial or editorial terms.

Sharing personal data with third parties

Data logged during visits to the BADV website are only shared with third parties insofar as we are obliged to do so by legal provisions or by court decisions, or if it is necessary to provide the data for the purposes of legal or criminal proceedings in the event of attacks on the BADV's internet infrastructure. Data are not shared for any other non-commercial or commercial purposes.

If you order informational material from us, the personal information you provide will only be used by the BADV and the companies responsible for shipping the brochures. We do not share your personal information with third parties without your express consent.

E-mail privacy

If you send us an e-mail, your e-mail address will only be used for the purposes of corresponding with you. General enquiries received by email will be answered or forwarded to the relevant agency within the federal revenue administration.

Use of cookies

Certain pages use cookies without us being able to inform you of this. The default setting of most browsers is to accept cookies automatically. You can, however, choose to deactivate cookies entirely, or set your browser to store cookies for the duration of the current internet session only.

Protection of minors

Persons under 18 years of age should not send us any personal data without the consent of their parents or guardian. We do not request any personal data from children or juveniles. We do not knowingly collect such data, nor do we share such data with third parties.

Our website contains links to other providers' web pages. We have no influence over whether these providers respect German data privacy provisions. The external links featured on our website are only reviewed on a provisional basis when they are selected. It is not our intention to continually check the content of external sites, nor is this possible.
